
Wisconsin Robotics - RoboMaster Competition
Overview
Wisconsin Robotics is a group of talented robotics engineers that get together to design and build the next generation Mars rovers that will one day work alongside astronauts exploring the Red Planet.
This year, I founded the RoboMaster's team with 4 other members to compete in the RoboMaster University Series (RMU) to build a PVP live firing robot.
Roles
After our initial set-up and testing, we divided up our roles. I was in charge of the turret design, control, with a touch of automated targetting using computer vision.

New turret design
In the new turret design, a slip ring was integrated to enhance the turret's rotational range. The stand's height was adjusted for rapid targeting and internal design was revised to provide stronger support. The ammo basket's frame design was optimized to reduce weight, and it was also moved above the shooter for more efficient reloading mechanism. Additionally, the rotating reloader design was revised to minimize jams and improve the overall firing rate.
Competition results
The competition results were: 1 win, 2 ties, and 2 losses, placing us 19th out of 25 teams and 2nd among all rookie (first-year) teams. Our performance is impressive considering that the system only failed once, we only had 5 members on the team, and completed the entire sign up/design/build process in less than 3 months (other schools often work on it for a year with dozens of team members). This is a remarkable achievement for our first season, and I have high hopes for the future of the Wisconsin Robotics RoboMaster team.
